Model One

The Model One

Overview:

This is a great amplifier that is based on the Dynaco ST-35 and it is a 17.5 watt per channel tube amplifier known for its warm, natural sound. It uses EL84 output tubes in a push-pull configuration and has a minimalist circuit design. It was originally sold as a kit or fully assembled back in the ’60s. Today, it’s often replicated using modern boards and parts. In short: simple layout, great sound, and a favorite with enthusiasts—just like you!

Chassis

I found the original chassis and layout of the ST-35 to be too anemic in design and layout to be acceptable in todays home audio. To bring the ST-35 chassis up to modern production standards, I’d want precision metal fabrication—laser-cut and CNC-bent steel. I’d ensure modern grounding points, precise tube socket alignment, and solid mounting holes for transformers. Also, I’d include modern ventilation slots, robust powder coating, and modern input and output connectors placed on the rear panel of the chassis, to insure robust connections and finally I’d make sure to include the overlooked on/off switch. In short, tighter tolerances, easier assembly, and a more durable finish that provides a practical and ergonomic layout.

I believe the Model One chassis is the total realization of the modern production standards I listed above.
